A light-hearted tale of airports, baggage and the flightpath of love.
Robyn is changing job, Jenni is marrying Kate, and Sam loves to fly. When Jenni’s travel plans are disrupted, Robyn must overcome her fear of flying and deliver her friend to the wedding on time.
The setting is a modern Australian airport.
It’s Robyn’s first day and the airport is busy with flights, passengers and preparations for the grand opening of the new terminal.
When Robyn meets rookie pilot Sam there is a spark, but Sam struggles to find the right words and Robyn’s ex, the boastful Captain Steve, is being a nuisance.
Under the guidance of her best friend Jenni and airport manager David, Robyn must adapt to her new role, deal with difficult passengers, ensure the smooth running of the opening ceremony, and get Jenni away on time to her wedding (to Kate) in the Whitsundays.
When Jenni’s travel plans are disrupted at the last minute, Robyn enlists Sam’s help, and must overcome her own fear of flying.
The music is all original, with influences including 80’s and 90’s Rock/Pop, modern Big Band Swing and rock musicals classic Musical Theatre.
The songs feature cool bass lines, soaring guitar leads, duets and 4-part vocal arrangements that are fun to sing.
Currently recorded are quality demo versions of the songs, as well as backing tracks that could be used by groups without an orchestra.
Matthew Bertram started songwriting and playing in a rock band while at high school. Matthew wrote a short rock opera as a school project, and went on to write choral pieces, wedding songs, instrumentals for strings and flute, and rock/pop songs.
Fragile Heavy This Way Up is Matthew's first full length musical. His vision is for an entertaining show that is as much fun to perform as it is to watch.
Matthew works as a facilitator, teaching IT sales people to tell engaging stories, ask great questions and deliver compelling messages.
